weebly pricing review

Weebly, one of the renowned website builders, was established back in 2007. Since then this drag and drop website builder has introduced multiple pricing plans for its 50 million users across the globe.

Weebly divides its pricing plans into two broad categories:

  1. Plans for websites
  2. Plans for online stores

For the first category, Weebly has offered four plans, namely:

  • Free
  • Connect
  • Pro
  • Business

And for the second category, this website builder offers three plans, namely:

  • Pro
  • Business
  • Business Plus

This blog will discuss the first four plans in detail, what they entail, and what value for money they provide. Moreover, just like other website builders, Weebly has some hidden costs. You should be aware of these costs and do the budgeting accordingly.

Weebly Plans

1.   Is Weebly Free?

Weebly Tutorial – Build Your Own Free Website

Unlike many other website builders, Weebly offers a freemium plan. Yes! You can sign-up for free and start building your website.

This plan gives you the opportunity to explore the platform thoroughly and if need be, upgrade to a premium plan.

Some of its salient features are:

  • Domain with Weebly branding
  • 500 MB storage
  • SSL security
  • Lead capture and contact forms – Lead capture helps to collect or capture leads for your business
  • SEO
  • Chat and email support
  • Community forum

But as they say nothing comes for free, so Weebly’s free plan wouldn’t let you connect the custom domain and you would have to move to a paid plan to do this.

2.   Connect Plan ($8 per month)

As the name suggests, the connect plan lets you connect to your custom domain.

That means you can now have the website link that looks like “domainname.com” (.net .co .uk, etc.). However, be mindful of the fact that domain does not come free with this plan. You will either have to purchase it from Weebly or you can use your already owned domain.

Some of its salient features are:

  • Unlimited storage
  • SSL security
  • 3rd party apps integration
  • Powerful SEO tools to rank your site on Google
  • Community forums
  • Live chat
  • Email support
  • Lead capture

While this plan may look attractive to you, be mindful of the fact that Weebly advertisements will run on your website. To remove advertisements, you will have to upgrade your site to the more expensive plans.

Furthermore, this plan does not offer priority or phone call customer support.

As mentioned above, this plan comes with a price tag of $8 per month. However, if you pay the bill annually, your cost will come down to $5 per month and overall you will save $36 per year. Weebly offers a 2-year plan as well, which would help you save $96.

3.   Weebly Pro Plan ($18 per month)

Pro plan is basically meant for entrepreneurs, small businesses and bloggers. It would not only let you connect to the custom domain, but it also offers free domain (for the first year only).

Features

Unlike the freemium and connect plans, this plan would remove Weebly’s advertisements from your custom domain. Some of the other features that “Pro plan” offers are:

  • Advanced Site Stats (Learn more about your visitor’s behaviour through stats)
  • Free SSL Security (Make your site protected for confidential information)
  • Unlimited Storage
  • Password Protection (You can hide specified areas of the website and make them password protected)
  • Add 3rd party embed code
  • Site Search

E-commerce features

There are limited e-commerce features available in this plan as the main focus of this plan is not online store building (Weebly has three other plans for online store building purposes).

However, you can still sell up to 25 products and add a shopping cart into your site. There would be a 3% transaction fee. You can also add a quick shop into your site. Quick Shop is a kind of faster check out that lets your customers place an order quickly. Not only this, you can add “In-store pick up” on your site as well.

Marketing features

You can market your website with the help of some powerful SEO features and lead capture. You can also add the Instagram feed to your site.

Customer Support

The customer support touchpoints offered with this plan are:

  • Live Chat
  • Email
  • Community Forum
  • Phone Support

For the above mentioned features, you will pay $18 per month. However, you can reduce this cost by paying on an annual basis. It would cost you around $12 per month, if billed annually. That means you will be saving $72 in a year. Similarly, if you opt for the 2-year plan, you will pay $9 per month, saving $216 in 2 years.

4.   Business Plan ($35 per month)

As mentioned, this plan is tailored for small businesses and stores. It would let you sell products and accept payments easily.

Let’s find out what features this plan offers and how much you can save.

Features

This plan and the Pro plan offer identical features, except that the Business plan outshines the Pro plan in ecommerce and marketing.

E-commerce Features

Unlike the “Pro plan”, you can sell unlimited products with this plan. Moreover, there is a 0% transaction fee.

What this plan offers and the Pro plan doesn’t are as follows:

Item BadgesItem badges would let your customers know when the product is on sale, in stock or out of stock
Item OptionItem option would let your customers customize their products using the available options
Item ReviewsItem review feature would help you in sending emails to your customers asking for their product reviews
Inventory ManagementInventory management feature would keep you updated with the level of inventory so you can manage your inventor proactively
Automatic Tax CalculatorThis feature calculates tax automatically on the total bill
CouponsYou can offer discount coupons to your customers to drive sales or increase engagement
Square Gift cardsYou can sell as well as accept gift cards with this feature
Shipping CalculatorJust like the tax calculator, this feature calculates the shipping charges based on price, weight, and number of products
Shipping LabelsYou can print shipping labels right from your account’s dashboard

Marketing Features

Apart from the SEO features, lead capture and Instagram feed, this plan gives you advanced e-commerce insights like statistics and pop-up notifications.

Price

This plan would cost you $35 per month. However, you can save money by paying annually, which would be $25 per month (saving $120 in a year). With the 2-year payment plan, you would pay $21 per month, hence saving $336 in two-years.

Hidden Costs

1.   Weebly Domain Cost

“Free Domain” is free only for a year. For the second year and onwards, it could cost you around $19.95 per year. If you do not want to pay $19.95 to Weebly, you can purchase the domain name for $15 per year from NameCheap. Moreover, domain privacy comes free with NameCheap. That means saving around $14.95 per year.

You can also transfer your already owned domain to Weebly. Surprisingly you will have to pay for it too (Wix and WordPress let you do that for free).

Moreover, you will need to pay the standard rate for WHOIS privacy protection. Though Weebly offers discounted rates for domain privacy, costing you around $10 per year.

1.   Email Addresses

If you want to have a custom email address, you will have to pay for it. If you are wondering what a custom email address is then it simply means something like this: JohnDoe@JohnDoe.com instead of JohnDoe@gmail.com. While both may be valid email addresses, the former looks more personalized, bringing authenticity to your email address and business profile.

Thus, for the purpose of custom email addresses, Weebly partners with Google Suite. It would cost you around $6 per month.

2.   Transaction Fee

Weebly charges a 3% transaction fee for those subscribed to the free, connect and pro plans. There is no transaction fee for those paying for the business plan. However, be mindful of the fact that many competitors of Weebly do not charge transaction fees at all.

3.   Paying per Month Vs. Paying Annually or Biennially

You save only when you cough up more money in advance. Those who cannot afford to pay an annual lump sum, do not save.

4.   Apps cost

Weebly has an extensive app store consisting of 350+ apps. However, not all the apps come free of cost. Some of the apps are free while others are paid.

So, if you would need a paid app, don’t forget to add that app’s cost into your budget. Moreover, there are some apps which offer a free trial. It is therefore advised that you try them out first before deciding to pay for them as there are some bogus apps too.

5.   Unlimited Storage

A general perception is that all Weebly plans offer unlimited storage – that may not be entirely true. Only the premium plans offer unlimited storage.

Conclusion

Weebly’s strongest point is its free plan. It is ideal for those who are cash strapped or simply learning how to create a website. This plan is also ideal for those thinking of launching a website for their non-profit organization.

The Connect Plan lets you easily connect your domain. However, you would still get Weebly’s advertisements on your website. There is no phone support available with this plan.

The Pro Plan is the most popular among entrepreneurs and small business owners. You would get rid of Weebly’s branding on your site. It has included all the basic and important features required for the website building. Though there are a few e-commerce features included in this plan as well.

If you want to start a basic online store, you must consider upgrading to the Business Plan. That includes all the basic e-commerce features.

So, how much does Weebly cost? As for the cost, it is advised that you opt for the biennial payment option especially if you have the money and you see yourself with Weebly for at least two years. You will save the most. If you can’t do that then you can pay yearly or month-to-month (you won’t save money with the last option though).
